The right performance class for all your needs
The cleaning performance of a pressure washer is determined by how the water pressure and water volume are used in combination. The better these two factors are aligned, the easier it is to remove stubborn dirt and the quicker large surface areas can be cleaned. The larger the surface area to be cleaned and/or the more stubborn the dirt, the higher the performance class recommended. As well as offering better performance, higher unit classes also offer other practical functions. These include longer hose lengths for a considerably extended working radius and better hose quality to improve twist resistance and flexibility. This ensures short set-up times and considerably more comfort, especially in the case of frequent use.
How does a pressure washer work?
Pressure in a normal household water supply can be up to 4 bar. Water supplied into the pressure sprayer via a garden hose, passes through a booster pump which generates water pressure of up to 160 bar. The water is ejected through a small high-pressure nozzle as a concentrated jet with a high cleaning effect.
Easy on the environment, and your pocket
The best pressure washers can also be operated using an alternative water source. The device simply draws the water from any available water reservoir (e.g. a water butt). This allows the pressure washers to be used during a hose-pipe ban and makes them environmentally friendly. A further advantage is that independence from the water mains affords greater flexibility and increases the working radius.

Now lets take a look at what PSI and GPM mean
What is PSI
Pounds Per Square Inch (PSI) is used to make it clear that pressure is at a vacuum and not the ambient atmospheric pressure. Atmospheric pressure at sea level is around 14.7 psi, this is added to any pressure reading made in air at sea level. For example, a bicycle tire pumped to 50 psi will have a pressure of 50 +14.7 =64.7psi.
What is GPM
Gallons Per Minute (GPM), the flow rate is the key way to determine how long the job will take. The best way to is to take the PSI and multiply it by GPM, the resulting number will will be a guide on how the washer will work compared to others. For example, two different pressure washers. One at 3.5 GPM and 2000 PSI, giving a rating of 7,000.
The next one is 2.3 GPM and 2600 PSI giving it a rating of 5,980.
So the result of this is the1st pressure washer will get the job done quicker despite having less power than the 2nd pressure washer. Both pressure washers will do a good job if requiring 2,00 PSI or less. When considering what size pressure washer to buy, keep in mind that the name Pressure Washer might actually be misguide. It’s both pressure and flow rate you need to consider. Happy cleaning.
